G4TV Rant

I really miss the original programming for the G4 TV network. It was originally supposed to be “TV for gamers”, and it started out great. There were so many awesome original programs…

  • Arena (competitive game show)
  • Blister (adventure gaming news)
  • Cheat! (walkthrough footage)
  • Cinematech (gameplay footage)
  • Electric Playground (reviews)
  • Filter (top 10 lists)
  • G4tv.com (talk show)
  • Icons (game industry stories)
  • Judgment Day (review)
  • Players (celebrity gamers)
  • Portal (MMORPG soap opera/drama/comedy)
  • Pulse (another gaming news show)
  • X-play (reviews)

Now the channel mostly plays reruns of Lost, Heroes, Star Trek: TNG, Cops, Ninja Warrior, and Cheaters. There’s one, maybe two gaming shows in their lineup now: X-Play and I think Cheat!. That’s it. What a joke.

Plenty to see here

As I browse YouTube and Viddler during my lunch breaks I see more and more gaming videos popping up all the time… Area5 Media, AVGN, Happy Console Gamer, Kaddy Gamer, Ashe10, ServerError404, the list goes on and on.

Nerd Alert

For the truly hardcore there are great sites like Speed Demos and TAS Videos that house hundreds of videos showing footage of game completions in record times.

Why?

Judging by the amount of comments and total views of these gaming related videos there is obviously a market for this type of stuff. Why can’t G4 start playing more video game shows?
